The Town of Concrete previously issued evacuation notices for several areas in town limits, specifically the Burpee Hill Road area, Eriksen Place and Mill Addition area and East Concrete area due to landslides in those areas and the possibility of continued movement.

Since then, town officials have gone door-to-door to keep affected residents informed and engaged subject matter experts to assess the situations. The Town received initial field reports and has received additional information from the Geotech’s who completed assessments for these areas.

Evacuation levels for these areas have now been canceled.

Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions during extreme rain events and to be aware of the potential for landslides. The Town will continue to monitor the areas and is working on a data module to help track rainfall. This tool will further assist the Town in assessing landslide potential and determining when resident notifications may be necessary. The Town is also researching other slope stabilization and protective measures for some areas.

The Town of Concrete will notify all residents within the area if the current situation changes.  For further information, contact the Concrete Town Hall at 360.853.8401.

This is information only.

The Town of Concrete is issued Level 3 (“Go!”) evacuation notices for 8 homes in the Eriksen Place neighborhood out of concern that continued rainfall will worsen a landslide, first discovered on December 10.  A second landslide near Burpee Hill Road was detected on December 14, prompting Level 2 (“Get Set”) evacuation notices for 32 homes in that neighborhood. A third landslide outside of town limits was discovered on December 16, prompting Level 2 (“Get Set”) evacuation notices for approximately 18 homes in the east Concrete area.

  • Level 3 (“Go!”) means evacuate immediately from your area. Leave now! There is danger in your area.
  • Level 2 (“Set”) means that a short notice evacuation is likely in your area. Be prepared for sudden evacuation and leave now if you need extra time.
  • Level 1 (“Ready”) means that a threat is in your area. Be aware and get ready to evacuate.

Since then, town officials have gone and are going door-to-door to keep all residents informed and have engaged subject matter experts to assess the situation. Although instruments have been installed at the Eriksen Place and Burpee Hill locations to help monitor land movement, officials caution that slides occur rapidly and without warning.

The Town of Concrete previously issued Level 2 (“Get Set”) evacuation notices for approximately 32 homes in the Burpee Hill slide area.

The Town has received the initial field report for this area and will be updating the evacuation levels for this area as follows:

  • Properties along Ross Alley and the north side of Main Street between North Superior Avenue and Shields Court will remain at Level 2 (“Get Set”) evacuation levels while further monitoring and inspection is completed.
  • The evacuation level for all other properties along the south side of Main Street, including Duffy Street, Spring Street, North Rietze, North Park, and Shields Court has now been canceled.
